If Nigeria Is Safe, Why Does Seyi Tinubu Need a Battalion? Citizens Question Leaders’ Priorities (VIDEO)

Nigerians have taken to social media to raise concerns after a widely circulated video appeared to show Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, moving with what many described as a “battalion-level” security escort.

The footage, which has sparked intense debate, once again draws attention to the country’s worsening insecurity and the growing divide between citizens and those in positions of power.

In a nation where ordinary people move daily with fear of kidnappers, armed robbers, bandits and violent attacks, many Nigerians are questioning why the President’s son requires such heavy protection if the country is truly safe  and what this says about Nigeria’s current reality.

Public reactions reflect deep frustration. Many argue that the size of escorts surrounding political elites is itself an admission that the nation remains unsafe for the average citizen.

“If Nigeria is safe, why does Seyi Tinubu need enough security to fill a stadium? It shows they know the country is not working.”

Another commented:

“A functional country protects everyone, not just the powerful. When leaders’ children move with more security than some state governors, we should know something is fundamentally broken.”

Security analysts have long argued that Nigeria’s rising inequality in safety is becoming more visible. While political leaders and their families are surrounded by heavily armed escorts, most citizens rely solely on personal luck, prayer and vigilance.

What exactly are our leaders afraid of?
When Seyi Tinubu has to move with a full battalion of security, doesn’t it tell them something is fundamentally broken?

This imbalance, many say, reflects a deeper crisis: those in power do not experience the same Nigeria as the people they govern.

Civil society groups have also criticised the message such displays of force send to the public.

A security researcher told GlobalHints:

“When top officials surround themselves with heavy protection, it means they do not feel safe. If they don’t feel safe, how do ordinary Nigerians stand a chance?”

Tinubu and Leadership Fear They Rarely Admit

The question many Nigerians are now asking is simple: What exactly are leaders afraid of?

From governors travelling with convoys stretching several kilometres to political families using military-grade escorts, citizens believe the ruling class is aware of the insecurity that everyday Nigerians face  and is quietly protecting itself while publicly downplaying the crisis.

Critics say the contradiction exposes a failure of leadership. If a government cannot create a safe environment where its own members feel comfortable moving freely, then its promises of restored security ring hollow.

In contrast, members of the political elite travel in reinforced SUVs, escorted by heavily armed police, DSS operatives, soldiers and private security.

For many Nigerians, Seyi Tinubu’s widely criticised security entourage is not the issue in isolation  it only highlights the growing gap between those protected by the state and those neglected by it.

As the debate continues, one sentiment remains dominant: if leaders and their families do not feel safe without massive escorts, then the government needs to explain why millions of unprotected Nigerians should feel safe at all.
