American Judge ‘Resigns’ After Being Caught Peeing in Bush by Police (WATCH)

A judge in Arizona has stepped down after reportedly being caught on police body-camera footage urinating in a bush near a courthouse. The incident took place in Yavapai County at approximately 1:30 a.m. on October 4, as per reports from The Independent

According to Az Family, the footage shows that the judge, Kristyne Schaaf‑Olson (Judge Pro Tempore), was approached by an officer who asked

“What are you doing?” the officer asked. “This is disgusting.” Her response: “I’m waiting … Uber.”

Global Hints reported that the police further alleges that Schaaf-Olson displayed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, and was involved in “urinating and exposing herself to several people.” Her husband was also cited for resisting arrest, interfering with a crime scene investigation and obstruction of government operations.

Following the release of the footage, Schaaf-Olson submitted her resignation. The event has sparked discussion about judicial conduct, public trust in the legal system, and whether sufficient oversight exists for judges’ behaviour outside the courtroom.

The fact that a judge whose role is to uphold and interpret the laws  found herself at the centre of such a public and embarrassing incident has raised eyebrows both locally in Arizona and more broadly.

Ethics experts suggest that while judges are granted significant autonomy, they are also held to high standards of personal and professional behaviour. Public exposure of this kind can undermine confidence in the judicial system and may lead to calls for stricter accountability measures.

As the investigation continues, analysts say this case could serve as a cautionary tale about the consequences of off-duty misconduct for those in public office.
