“I Messed Up Badly”: VeryDarkMan Tenders Public Apology After Aircraft Fight With Mr Jollof (Video)

Nigerian social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has publicly apologised following a violent confrontation with comedian Freedom Atsepoyi (Mr Jollof) on board a United Nigeria Airlines flight. The apology comes in the wake of a video that captured the two men physically fighting during boarding. Vanguard News

The incident occurred on United Nigeria Airlines Flight UN0523, which was boarding at Asaba International Airport. According to the airline, its crew responded promptly to de-escalate the situation. VDM and Mr Jollof were swiftly deboarded and handed to airport security.

In a video shared after the plane landed, VDM showed bite marks on his chest and alleged that Mr Jollof bit him during the scuffle.

VDM’s Side: What Led to the Clash

In a candid post, VDM explained that the clash had been brewing for weeks, stemming from their long-running online feud.He said he saw Mr Jollof on the plane and decided to confront him, warning:

“Today, you will slap me.”

VDM claimed that Mr Jollof struck first.

“He hit me, and when I defended myself, he started biting  he bit me so bad that he almost ruined my tattoo,” he said. He added, “Jollof would’ve kpai me if I didn’t defend myself.”

Aviation Authority and Public Backlash

United Nigeria Airlines, in a statement, reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for unruly behavior. Spokesperson Chibuike Uloka said the crew “responded immediately and professionally” to ensure passenger safety.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has opened an inquiry into the incident. Its Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, is demanding more details, calling for the airline and both personalities involved to cooperate fully.

Public reaction has not been kind. A social media user lamented the lack of decorum, pointing out that a woman with a baby was seated just behind where the fight occurred. Another person warned that the men risk being banned from flying if authorities decide to act.

The Apology: VDM’s Regret

In a follow-up video, VeryDarkMan apologised for engaging in violence, calling the incident “deeply regrettable” and admitting he let emotions get the better of him. He expressed remorse for how things escalated, especially in a place where lives and safety matter most.

Whether the apology will quell the backlash remains to be seen  but for now, Nigerians are watching closely, and aviation authorities may not let this one fly off quietly.
