Police Arrest Suspects Behind K!lling of Mother and Six Children in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects believed to be responsible for the brutal murder of a woman and her six children in the Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters area of Kano metropolis.

The arrests come less than 24 hours after the shocking killings, in an operation carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and supervised by the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led sting operation conducted overnight.

The trio was identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, aka “Chebe,” 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, aka “Wawo,” 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, all within Kano State.

Police say Umar Auwalu, who is reportedly the nephew of the deceased woman, confessed to masterminding the attack.

During interrogation, he allegedly admitted that the group had carried out a series of violent crimes in the state, including the killing and burning of two other women in a separate incident at Tudun Yola Quarters of Kano.

Items reportedly recovered from the suspects include four blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones believed to belong to the victims, a cutlass, a club locally known as a (Gora), cash suspected to have been stolen from the scene, and other dangerous weapons.

The gruesome deaths of the woman, identified as Fatima Abubakar, and her six children on January 17 shocked residents and drew widespread condemnation from community leaders and authorities.

In the wake of the attack, Governor Abba Yusuf condemned the killings as barbaric and ordered an immediate manhunt for those responsible.

The Kano State Police Command has assured residents that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident and identify any additional accomplices.

Officers involved in the operation were commended for their swift response, and members of the public were thanked for their cooperation. Authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice and that peace and security are maintained in the state.
