Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has responded sharply to Donald Trump’s recent statements regarding Nigeria, calling out the former U.S. leader for what he described as hypocritical posturing. Shehu labelled Trump’s comments “utterly devoid of self-introspection.” According to Daily Post
He pointed to the growing pattern of U.S. foreign-policy rhetoric which, he argued, often overlooks domestic issues:
“Trump is utterly incapable of saving 70 Christians from being killed daily right under his nose, yet aspiring to save Nigerians,” Shehu wrote on X. X (formerly Twitter)

In the strongly worded reaction, Shehu told Trump to apply his own critique to the United States before projecting it onto Nigeria. He argued that the Nigerian government should rather seek practical support than “sensational headlines.”
“Physician, heal thyself,” Shehu admonished, spotlighting what he sees as credibility issues in the American posture.
The commentator acknowledged Nigeria is indeed facing multiple security threats, but maintained that the narrative of religious persecution as portrayed by Trump misses the nuance of the country’s complex situation.
He emphasized that violence in Nigeria is not strictly religious but often driven by geography, poverty, and criminal networks.
Trump recently designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” and warned of potential military intervention over the alleged killing of Christians.
Shehu said such threats undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty, describing them as “neo-colonial posturing.”
Referring to Nigeria’s sovereignty and dignity, Shehu stated:
“My country is not a ‘disgraced country’ and will never be a ‘disgraced country’. Anyone who is proud of his mother who gave birth to him … will not accept his land being called ‘disgraced’.”
TRUMPS OSTRICH SELF DECEIT:
Trump is utterly incapable of saving 70 Christians from being killed daily right under his nose, yet aspiring to ” defend Christians” in Nigeria from Islamist persecution. “Physicians, heal THY SELVES” .
