Nigerian rapper and songwriter Odumodublvck (real name Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu) has publicly revealed the reason behind his much-talked-about red cap: a deliberate symbol rooted in Igbo tradition and his view of the music industry as a battlefield.
According to an interview, as per report from Dailypost. He said
“This is a war cap. Whenever my tribe wants to go to war against another clan, all the warriors will wear this. So if I enter the music industry, which is a battleground, put two and two together,”
In his remarks, Odumodublvck emphasised that the red cap in Igbo land has cultural resonance: worn by warriors when about to head into combat. By adopting this symbol, he positions himself as ready for the conflicts, competition and struggles that he believes define today’s music space in Nigeria.

The red cap he wears is known in Igbo tradition as the “Okpu-Agu” (or simply “Agu cap”) worn by titled men or warriors in some Igbo communities. According to his explanation, the cap is purposefully used when a clan prepares to engage another. In the entertainment context, he’s made the analogy that the “clan” is the creative industry, and the “battle” is the quest for relevance, recognition and artistic survival.
By aligning himself with such symbolism, Odumodublvck indicates a desire to root his public image in more than just aesthetic style: it becomes part of his personal narrative as a fighter in the music business.
When asked why he equates the music industry to a war zone, Odumodublvck said the level of competition, pressure and layering of challenges in the Nigerian entertainment space is immense. He described the industry as a place where only the strong survive, and the cap is his armour of identity, readiness and resistance.
In his words:
“This cap is a war cap … So if I enter the music industry, which is a battleground, put two and two together.”
This perspective provides insight into how he frames his career not simply as an artist riding trends, but as one strategically engaging in a larger struggle cultural, commercial and create
Beyond its symbolic depth, the red cap has also become a key part of Odumodublvck’s personal brand. In a crowded industry where look and identity matter, the cap distinguishes him visually and narratively. It reinforces his message of being battle-ready, culturally anchored and commercially ambitious.
