Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has spoken out about the personal and emotional toll he endured after publicly endorsing Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the 2023 general elections.
In a recent interview, the Declan Rice crooner reflected on the backlash he received from fans and critics alike for his bold political stance, revealing that his support came from personal conviction rather than political ambition.
“When I saw him, I said, ‘Sir, good morning. Because of you, they are insulting me online.’ Everybody knows I came out to support you,” he recounted, describing his heartfelt encounter with the former Anambra State governor.
Odumodublvck clarified that he never sought political favors from Obi, emphasizing that his endorsement was rooted in belief and bravery. “I didn’t need Peter Obi to save me. I even mentioned it in my music. It takes guts for an artist to publicly endorse a presidential candidate, and I paid the price for it,” he said.
Despite resistance from his father, the rapper noted that it was his 68-year-old mother who encouraged him to vote and accompanied him to the polling unit.
Now, with the release of his fifth studio project The Machine Is Coming, Odumodublvck says he is focused on building his brand and seeks support from influential Nigerians, not as a politician, but as a fellow entrepreneur.
“This is bigger than music, this is business. I’m building something here, and I need allies,” he stated.
His candid revelation has reignited conversations online about the cost of political expression for Nigerian artists and the fine line they walk between advocacy and public perception.
