A campaign photo-shoot by Chioma Ifemeludike, the governorship contestant under the African Action Congress (AAC) in Anambra State, has triggered a wave of online commentary.

Within hours of the elegant studio images surfacing on Instagram and X, Nigerians took to social feeds some applauding the boldness, others questioning if glitz and glamour belong in serious politics.

According to Intel Region, the photos went “viral… with thousands of Nigerians reacting.”

In the images, Ifemeludike appears in carefully styled outfits and confident poses, presenting herself not only as a politician but also as a public-figure comfortable before the lens.

Her clear message: “Beauty and brains in one body,” she communicated via her caption—underscoring her ambition to reshape the narrative around female leadership in the state.

Social-media users were swift. Some embraced her style and message, with one user commented:

“There’s no customised dress code for leadership. If she has the capacity … let her go for it.”

Others were less forgiving:

“You all claiming there’s no certain dress code for political office are so unbelievable sha … she can dress more nice than this please please.”

The core of the debate? Whether the style of presentation enhances or undermines political credibility in a contest many believe should be about substance over image.

Undeterred, Ifemeludike doubled down on her narrative in a follow-up post and video clip, boldly stating:

“Do not let them gaslight or confuse you. Yes, we can have beauty and brains in one body. Beauty and elegance are about courage, kindness, and intelligence.”

Her message: this isn’t merely about photo aesthetics  it’s about the politics of representation and the ambition of a woman refusing to be pigeon-holed.
