Anthony Joshua, Family and Well-Wishers Mourn as Funeral Prayers Held for Late Friends in London (VIDEO)

British heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua joined family members, friends, and members of the boxing community on Sunday as funeral prayers (Janaza) were held at the London Central Mosque for his close associates, Sina Ghami and Abdul Latif “Latz” Ayodele, who tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Nigeria.

The emotional service took place at the mosque on Park Road, London, where the bodies of Ghami and Ayodele  respectively Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach and personal trainer  had been repatriated after the fatal crash last week on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The boxer, who was also involved in the crash but escaped with minor injuries, was present alongside well-wishers and supporters paying their final respects.

The accident, which occurred on December 29, 2025, claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s most trusted team members when the Lexus SUV they were traveling in collided with a stationary truck in Ogun State.

After receiving treatment and being discharged from a Lagos hospital, Joshua oversaw arrangements for the return of his friends’ remains to the United Kingdom ahead of the funeral prayers.

As mourners gathered for the Janaza (funeral prayer), the somber atmosphere reflected both the deep personal loss felt by Joshua and the broad impact of the tragedy across the global boxing community.

The funeral rites are expected to be followed by additional memorial activities, including burial services and gatherings in London, allowing family, colleagues, and fans to honour the memory of Ghami and Ayodele.

Tributes in the days since the crash have poured in from around the world, highlighting the respect and affection held for the two men who played significant roles in Joshua’s professional journey.

Their deaths have sent ripples through the sport, underscoring the close bonds that often exist behind the scenes in elite athletic careers.
