WAEC: Thugs Allegedly Hired by Student’s Mother Assault Ondo School Official

A Vice Principal at Complete Child Development College, Aule, Akure, Ondo State, has been hospitalised after being brutally attacked by suspected thugs allegedly hired by the mother of a student caught attempting exam malpractice.

The victim, identified as Mr. Rotifa, had confiscated an Android phone from an SS3 student, Wisdom Elisa, during a West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) session. The incident reportedly angered the student’s mother, who stormed the school the following day and confronted the school’s management.

According to the Ondo State Ministry of Education, the confrontation escalated to the point that the school proprietor instructed that the seized phone be returned to the student.

Despite this, tensions continued to rise. The student’s brother, a former student of the school, returned later with a group of young men to threaten and harass the Vice Principal.

The Ministry’s statement revealed that after receiving reports of the suspects loitering around the school, Mr. Rotifa was advised to report the matter to the police. He was accompanied by two policemen in a patrol van in an attempt to locate the suspects. However, on their way back to the station, the group allegedly ambushed the van, dragged Mr. Rotifa out, and severely beat him.

He was later taken to a hospital for treatment and has since been discharged. However, the school’s principal stated that Mr. Rotifa has avoided returning home due to safety concerns.

The Ondo State Ministry of Education has condemned the attack and assured that additional security measures will be put in place for the remainder of the WASSCE examinations. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the assault.
