The Real Story of Seyi Vodi: From Humble Hustle to National Honour

Oluwaseyi Adekunle better known as Seyi Vodi was born on July 19, 1975 in Lagos State, with roots in Osun State. He earned a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Maiduguri, graduating in 1999. During his NYSC posting in Akwa Ibom, he became friends with tailors and taught himself to sew simple shirts and boxers for fellow corps members sparking the passion that would reshape his future.

A Banking Failure That Changed Everything

After NYSC, Seyi Vodi hoped to work in a bank. But in 2002, he failed the bank’s recruitment test. Instead of feeling discouraged, he leaned into what he was good at: tailoring.

He officially registered his first fashion label, Testimony Fabrics, in 2001, and later renamed it Vodi in 2003 to give it a stronger African identity. At the start, he worked from home and carried clothes around in a bag, delivering to clients himself.

I didn’t plan to be a tailor. But once I started, I knew I was building something special,” he once said.
