Former Senate President and Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Special Reconciliation Committee, Dr. Bukola Saraki, met with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in a bid to restore unity within the opposition party. The meeting, announced by Saraki via his X page on Monday, comes at a time of heightened tension within the PDP.
Saraki, who was joined by former Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, thanked Governor Makinde for taking time out of his busy schedule, despite it coinciding with his wife’s birthday. He also sent warm birthday wishes to Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde. Saraki expressed cautious optimism following the discussions, emphasizing their commitment to securing a unified position among the party’s leadership.
The reconciliation talks were initiated just days after Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, made a public announcement about withdrawing from all previous peace agreements within the PDP. Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and member of the G5 group, accused party leaders of dishonesty and betrayal, specifically pointing to Governor Makinde as “the architect of our problems.”
