Portable Sentenced to Three Months in Prison Over Assault, Theft Charges

Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo following his conviction on charges of assault and theft.

The judgment was delivered on Tuesday at the Magistrate Court in Ifo, Ogun State. Portable was arraigned on a three-count charge stemming from an incident that occurred on November 18, 2022, involving the alleged assault of an individual and the theft of musical equipment. The case was filed under charge sheet No. MIF/192C/2023.

Initially granted bail in April 2023 in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties from his immediate family, the singer repeatedly failed to appear in court, leading to multiple adjournments. He was eventually remanded after appearing before the court last Thursday.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, told the court that the offence took place around 11:00 a.m. in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.
