Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has broken his silence on speculations that he may run as vice-presidential candidate alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking at a public event in Kubwa, Abuja, where he donated to a school and hospital project run by the Anglican Church, Obi gave a cryptic response when asked about the alleged alliance.
“You can make of the report what you want, but I’m in a coalition against bad governance, hunger, and poverty,” he said.
His comment comes on the heels of media reports claiming Atiku had proposed a power-sharing arrangement, offering Obi the vice-presidential slot and pledging to serve only one term if elected. According to the reports, the offer was allegedly made during a private meeting between the two leaders in the United Kingdom earlier this year.
Sources familiar with the discussion, who spoke anonymously, hinted that Obi did not reject the idea outright but preferred to consult his inner circle and supporters before taking any formal position.
