The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has admitted to a major technical glitch that compromised the integrity of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), prompting a rescheduling of exams in 157 centres across Nigeria.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced the decision during an emotional press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, taking full responsibility for the failure that led to widespread irregularities and unusually low scores in the just-concluded UTME.
Fighting back tears, Oloyede revealed that 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres in the Owerri Zone covering the five states of the South East,will conduct a re-examination for all affected candidates.
In a post shared on JAMB’s official X handle (@JAMBHQ), the board stated:
“Man Proposes, God Disposes! It has been established that a technical glitch affected 157 centres out of the 887 centres in the 2025 UTME. This was basically responsible for the general low performance of the candidates scheduled to sit the examination in those centres.”
JAMB added that all affected candidates will be contacted and required to reprint their examination slips in preparation for a resit, which begins on May 16, 2025.
“I apologise for the trauma caused to the candidates and I take full responsibility for this,” Oloyede said.
This confirmation follows a wave of public complaints over systemic failures that marred the nationwide examination.
