‘King Sunny Ade Has Been Kidnapped’— Daughter Accuses Manager of Isolating Music Legend

Concern is growing over the whereabouts of Nigerian music legend, Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, popularly known as King Sunny Ade, after his daughter, Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye, alleged that he has been held incommunicado by his manager and relatives.

In a series of alarming social media posts, Ms. Adeniyi-Adegeye accused the icon’s manager and stepbrother, Dayo Adegeye, of isolating the 78-year-old Juju musician from his immediate family and allegedly relocating him between hotels without their knowledge.

She also alleged that her father, despite his age, is being forced to perform under pressure, raising concerns about his well-being and safety.

“SOS. KING SUNNY ADE HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED!! THE MANAGER (DAYO) IS THE CULPRIT, ALONG WITH HIS MOTHER, BROTHERS (DEMOLA, KENNY), AND HIS DRIVER, ADE.”

The post has since sparked reactions on social media, with fans and observers expressing concern and calling for clarity on the musician’s status.

As of the time of filing this report, none of the individuals mentioned had responded publicly to the allegations.

King Sunny Ade is one of Nigeria’s most revered musicians and cultural icons, celebrated globally for his pioneering role in Juju music and his decades-long career that has earned him a place in the pantheon of African music legends.
