Veteran Nollywood actress Jumoke George has opened up about the silent battles she has faced in recent years, revealing that she has been homeless for six years and has been taking refuge in a church.
In a deeply emotional interview, the once-celebrated actress shared how shame and fear of judgment kept her silent about her deteriorating living conditions and declining health. According to her, despite occasional film roles, the income was too meager to sustain her basic needs.
“I didn’t want to tell everyone that I don’t have a house where I sleep because I was ashamed,” she admitted. “But now, I have no other option. I’m worn out and frustrated.”
George explained that she sometimes only gets acting gigs once every three months, and the low pay is not enough to survive. With rising living costs and inconsistent work, she was eventually forced out of her rented apartment after rent was increased beyond what she could afford.
The actress, who has been battling illness since the beginning of the year, said her health challenges have made it difficult to accept film jobs or show up at locations. In some cases, she even had to take out loans to refund producers who had booked her for roles she could no longer fulfill.
Her candid revelation highlights the financial struggles that many entertainers face behind the scenes, especially when health and consistent work are no longer guaranteed.
