APGA Agents Caught Distributing Money, Gala and Spaghetti to Voters in Anambra Election (Video)

Awka, Nigeria  A viral video has sparked outrage online after showing individuals believed to be agents of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) distributing money, gala snacks and packs of spaghetti to voters during the ongoing Anambra State governorship election.

The footage, now circulating across X (Twitter), WhatsApp and Facebook, shows groups of people lined up as party agents hand out food items and ₦500–₦1,000 notes inside what appears to be a polling area.

The video has ignited fresh concerns about voter inducement and the long-standing issue of vote-buying ahead of final vote collation.

In the trending clip, plastic bags filled with gala and spaghetti are arranged beside a campaign vehicle bearing APGA colours. The alleged agents distribute the items openly while voters collect them before heading toward the queue.

Eyewitnesses at the polling unit can be heard saying:

“They are sharing gala and money so people will vote for their party.”

While some voters accept the items without hesitation, others express shock at how brazen the distribution is taking place.

The development has prompted strong reactions from electoral observers, civil society groups and political commentators.

A civic election observer in the area told GlobalHints.com.ng that:

“This is a clear violation of the Electoral Act. Redistribution of cash or food items in exchange for votes is a criminal offence.”

Election monitoring organisations have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to immediately investigate the incident. Many are questioning how such distribution could occur openly despite increased security presence.

The Electoral Act 2022, Section 121, clearly states that giving or receiving money or gift items in exchange for votes is punishable by up to 12 years imprisonment.

Legal analysts argue that the video, if verified, provides clear grounds for arrest and prosecution.

A constitutional lawyer based in Awka stated:

“This is election inducement. The law does not only prohibit giving money to voters but any item that can persuade a voter to choose a certain candidate.”

APGA Reacts — Denies Institutional Involvement

As backlash escalates, APGA party officials have reportedly dismissed the incident as the actions of “overzealous supporters,” insisting that the party does not approve or sponsor vote trading.

However, critics say this explanation is common during elections and accuse political parties of using informal groups to evade accountability.

INEC has yet to issue an official statement regarding the video at press time.

Analysts warn that vote-buying cheapens democracy and reduces elections to a transactional process rather than one based on competence or manifestos.

The recurring trend of voters exchanging ballots for cash or food items, they say, continues to weaken political accountability and promotes corruption.

As vote collation continues, many Nigerians are calling on authorities to treat this incident as a test case and enforce electoral laws.
