Alaafin of Oyo Visits President Tinubu, Seeks Partnership for National Development

The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja, reaffirming the Yoruba nation’s commitment to national unity and progress while calling for a strengthened partnership between traditional institutions and the federal government.

Speaking during the visit, Oba Owoade emphasized the importance of collaboration between modern governance and ancient traditions, noting that the progress of Nigeria lies in the fusion of both forces.

“Your Excellency, the people of Oyo remember your journey. You are a man who rose through the crucible of political struggle with unmatched courage and clarity,” the monarch said, praising Tinubu’s leadership and track record of service.

The Alaafin commended the Federal Government’s strides in economic reform, infrastructure, youth empowerment, agriculture, and education, and expressed the readiness of Oyo and the Yoruba people to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s transformation.

“Our people are resourceful, our youth are eager, our land is rich in culture and potential… Let us make the Oyo Empire a model of regional development—one that echoes the greatness of our past and aligns with your vision for a prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

The visit was attended by top presidential aides including the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Idris Muhammad; Senior Special Adviser on Public Communications and Orientation, Mr. Sunday Dare; and Senior Special Adviser on Administration and Operations, Alhaji Usman Muhammad.

Oba Owoade was accompanied by a distinguished entourage comprising royal fathers and high chiefs, including Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, the Oloro of Oro, Oba Joel Olaniyi Olatoye, and other prominent Yoruba traditional rulers and leaders.

The Alaafin concluded his speech with prayers for the President’s continued strength, wisdom, and success in leading the country toward unity and prosperity.
