The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the object seen in a viral video being brandished by Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, is a stun gun not a firearm.
The cleric voluntarily reported to the Lagos State Police Headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday, following widespread outrage over the footage, which showed him pointing a gun-like object at a passerby in Lagos.
Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that Adefarasin is currently cooperating with investigators and has been granted administrative bail pending the conclusion of the investigation.
In a follow-up statement released via 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), Hundeyin clarified that the item recovered from Adefarasin is a stun gun, which is considered a prohibited anti-riot device under Nigerian law, but not a lethal weapon.
“Pastor Paul Adefarasin, who turned himself in today at the Lagos State Police Command over a viral video where he was seen holding a gun-like object against another road user, was interrogated and he volunteered a cautionary statement to the police investigators,” the statement read.
The police emphasized that while the device is not a conventional firearm, investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are still ongoing.
